Plus Size boudoir photos Tips

North Carolinas best boudoir photographer, brii Cher'ri, at The boudoir studio creates an Inclusive, positive boudoir photography space for all people.

Plus size boudoir photography is actually quite the topic in the boudoir photography community. If you ask one photographer, they will tell you that photographing plus size boudoir should be the same as photographing any other boudoir session. If you ask the next, they'll tell you that photographing plus size boudoir is completely different from other boudoir sessions. And if you ask the next, they'll say there is a few things you should change and take into consideration but the overall way of shooting plus size boudoir would be the same.

So what's the right answer?

Well we asked the people who matter. We asked REAL plus size boudoir clients and plus size boudoir photographers how they would want to be photographed and if they thought there was a difference in how they would want to be posed or photographed versus a smaller body.

The overwhelming response and information gathered is, as I believed it would be , is that plus size bodies are different bodies. All bodies are different bodies, but posing and photographing plus size boudoir IS DIFFERENT.

But why, you may ask?

Plus size boudoir bodies are just bodies brii; we shouldn't be treated differently.

You are right, you shouldn't be treated differently, but to say you should be photographed the same would be ignoring the facts that bodies do differ and angles , poses and expectations from plus size boudoir clients are all different. Because its different for every single body, not just about differing sizes

The biggest question I ask all of my clients, plus size or not, is, how do you want to be captured? How do you want to be seen? What is your boudoir vision?

Is it natural as possible, not posed into arches and toe points galore and what some of my clients refer to as furniture gymnastics. Do you want to emphasize parts of your body and deemphasize others? All these questions lead to how to capture your body in your boudoir photographs.
Every person’s body is different, and some poses may not be as flattering on one body as the other. Size, shape , ability, and physicalities, all help to determine the way you photograph all boudoir, not just plus size boudoir. So just trying different poses and asking our clients what they love the best about themselves and make sure to highlight those areas and ask them what they are most self-conscious or unliking of and deemphasizing those while still having the conversation of why those pieces of them are just as worthy of love and acceptance.

Its important when photographing Plus Size boudoir that you take into account a few things:

Body Composition and Proportion: Plus-size bodies often have different proportions and curves than smaller bodies. This can impact how light falls on the body, as well as how certain poses and angles might be more or less flattering on those curves and the lines of the body.

Comfort and Confidence: It's important to create a comfortable and supportive environment for all Boudoir clients, but this can be particularly important for plus-size individuals who may have experienced body image issues or negative comments or even past negative Boudoir experiences because of their body size or shape. A photographer who is sensitive and educated on how to address these concerns can help the model learn how to believe more in themselves and feel more confident and at ease.

Posing and Lighting: Specific posing techniques and lighting can help to accentuate the beauty of plus-size bodies. It's important to choose poses that highlight curves and avoid those that might be unflattering. Additionally, soft, diffused lighting can help to create a flattering and sensual look
