What is Erotica Photography?

Erotica? Exotica? Erotic boudoir? Honestly, people call it lots of different things, but it all comes down to being the same.
Well, I think in their heads it does, and then I tell them what erotic photography is here at The boudoir Studio in North Carolina and I would say about 40% of the time they are mind-blown, just wide-eyed, and surprised.
So let’s get into it!
The definition of erotica photography is : is a style of art photography of an erotic, sexually suggestive, or sexually provocative nature. It is a type of erotic art.
With this definition, almost all of my photography would be erotica photography, but for me, erotica is a little different than its definition.

Erotica photography can be a photography session that is based in sexual nature of couples, groups, individuals, and really anywhere in between. The session, though erotic in nature, isn’t just sex; at least here at The boudoir Studio, our erotica photography sessions are based on the connection, pleasure, and experience as well as the sexual interaction and acts.
Each erotica photography experience starts like boudoir, lingerie, and clothes and slowly works down into getting naked and more intimate step by step. Each moment relaxes and encourages the client into a safe, comfortable, and exciting sensual mindset that creates stunning erotic images of their intimate moments.

The process of exploring erotica photography and finding the right erotica photographer for you can take time and patience and requires knowing what exactly you are hoping for out of your experience. How far you want to go, what your intimacy looks like, how comfortable you are in all aspects of your intimacy, and then how comfortable or open you are to another person capturing it.

For The boudoir Studio, erotica photography encompasses a huge realm of things, from vanilla to extreme; the line where boudoir becomes erotica for us is very clear though.
Erotica photography begins at the photographing of genitals. Boudoir photography can include nudes but without a concentration on gentials or any full frontal genitalia present. The moment genitalia and intimate acts are included, it becomes erotica photography.

Erotica photography requires special paperwork, storage, and care with the images and the sessions, as well as a special contract for the photographing of sex or any intimate acts or genitals. At The boudoir Studio, we are huge on making sure all bases are covered and everyone and their images are protected. Erotica is a very private and consensual experience, and creating a safe, judgment-free space where our clients can explore their sexuality, intimacy, and pleasure is our number one priority, and making stunning art of it, of course.
